Devastated Hong Kong Inhabitants Stunned as Large-Scale Blaze Engulfs Apartment Complexes

"Approaching the area, the warmth rises and you can experience it, with the fumes being very thick."

University student Thomas Liu was among the numerous residents attracted to the scene of a deadly fire that swept through much of the multi-block housing complex in the region's northern district.

At least 36 residents have lost their lives in yesterday's devastating blaze so far, with hundreds still missing, indicating that this figure will likely increase.

"This is a catastrophe," Thomas remarked about the fire, noting that he had seen a deceased person being transported from the location.

More than a 1,000 other individuals were compelled to evacuate the complex as the flames expanded, with some making their way to temporary centers that have been organized to shelter them.

The blaze is progressively being contained, but emergency responders report they are uncertain when it will be completely extinguished.

Blazes could be witnessed coming from separate homes as numerous residents watched in silence.

"I'm overwhelmed. There are so countless neighbours and community members. I do not know what is going on now. See, all the units are just burning. I am unsure what to accomplish. I wish the authorities can help us to settle down after this."

One local woman explained that her friends live inside the building and she was staying to learn if they managed to evacuate.

An elderly inhabitant, who has resided in block two of the residential estate for in excess of four decades annums, recalled hearing "a very loud noise" and witnessing flames erupt in a close block.

"I promptly went back to pack up my things," the senior occupant remarked.

"I am uncertain how I personally at this moment. I'm just considering about where I'm going to stay overnight because I almost certainly won't be able to go return to my home."

While the source of the blaze that consumed the numerous high-rise buildings remains unknown, the fire are believed to have spread quickly through the bamboo scaffolding that surrounded the structures, which were undergoing improvements.

Several people have voiced anger that such a large-scale blaze could have taken place and criticised the reaction.

"In cases where there's a brush fire, they will deploy choppers and release water bombs, but why is there not any deployment and how can they allow other structures ablaze?" questioned a different inhabitant of Wang Fuk Court.

"Our neighborhood is so proximate to the fire department and we thought the blaze could be extinguished rapidly, but currently the blaze has spread. I'm so disheartened," she explained.

The woman stated that she had been offered minimal direction from the local administration on where to obtain assistance.

Numerous area community members had provided supplies to the impacted residents - comprising numerous of warm layers and thermal aids.

Upon questioning about their feelings regarding the fire, inhabitants stated that "local administration is ineffective" and that they were "extremely devastated".

"We don't want to see any more victims," commented a resident.

An elderly female who resides in one of the damaged buildings stated she was absent when the blaze started but that she is concerned about her residence because it is uninsured.

"I'm extremely distressed that I have nowhere to inhabit now," she remarked.
